Voyages Imaginaires Parfums

Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal could easily earn an "exceeds expectations" rating for potion-making. In their new project, Voyages Imaginaires, all five compositions are not perfumes, but magical and strange concoctions, with a slightly artisanal, casual style.

For example, Tea & Rock 'n' Roll isn't just tea. It's a potion, constantly changing its state of matter. One moment you're surrounded by the damp mist of high-altitude tea plantations, the next by acrid green smoke. The smoke transforms into a herbaceous, crunchy gourd drink, and suddenly solidifies into a green chocolate KitKat with matcha. Even I, not a fan of perfumed "tea," found it captivating.

Azahar is a potion for a vigorous awakening. Its effects last for those first fifteen minutes, when you drink your first cup of coffee, soak up the cream on your face, and get your thoughts in order. Clean and crisp neroli – the freshness of a washed, ironed, and just the slightest bit starched white shirt. A touch of lavender and coumarin – a light bronzing powder for cheekbones. Bitter, resinous vanilla – a quick carb with coffee. Perfect for the morning, and then the crisp, powdery purity of Azahar can be carried further, or replaced with the white floral Le Grand Jeu.

Orange blossom, petitgrain, tangerine, vanilla, marshmallow.

By an unfortunate accident, an extra ingredient – mouse tail – found its way into the cauldron where Le Grand Jeu was brewed from sun, salt, and coconut milk. As a result, a light summer sunscreen turned into a gently numbing sleep aid with the scent of the sultry vapors of a night garden, tree mushrooms, and damp, fertile earth. It won't cure your tan, but it's certainly a good way to intoxicate someone.

L’échappée sauvage helps you tune your internal navigator so you don’t get lost among the tall pines and dense ferns, don’t go deaf in the silence of the forest from the chirping of cicadas and grasshoppers, and don’t get overwhelmed by the fresh herbal scent. An essential potion for the city dweller who ventures out into nature once every hundred years. At its core, L’échappée sauvage is a classic, even slightly wild, fougère, devoid of any unnecessary decorativeness, yet still beautiful.

I find something missing in La Couleur de la nuit. Some lacewing wings or griffin claws, so that long, soft needles of Italian pine, soap foam, pale pink rose, and patchouli come together to form a harmonious green chypre. Without this missing magical ingredient, the scent resembles a cracked emerald crystal, whimsically refracting the darkness. But if you're looking for a perfume with authentic, living pine, this might be it. This is it.

Lavender, geranium, vanilla, pine balsam, patchouli.
