Huacaya by Graham & Pott

The Huacaya fragrance from British manufacturer Graham & Pott is dedicated to the scent of the wool of the small, round-bottomed huacaya alpaca, which lives on the Altiplano plateau in the heart of the Andes.

Huacayas breathe thin air, rarely see rain, and, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica, grow just 30 centimeters of highly prized, exceptionally fine, curly wool in two years.

I've never seen alpacas in the wild, but I love the cozy, animal-like warmth of wool and its ability to absorb and refract scents from the outside. One way to recognize and "tame" a perfume is to spray it on a scarf, for example.

Huacaya perfume smells like a stranger's scarf. The gray, fluffy fabric is entangled with the mist of an autumn forest, frost on a red rowan tree, the scent of rotting leaves, stubble on the neck, and warm milk. A disturbing, at first alien, then surprisingly familiar and alluring scent. A love story at first sniff.

The leading theme in Huacaya is oud, with its feral, slightly dirty spirit, gradually losing its animal essence. Its feral nature is warmed with tenderness, and it gratefully thaws, merging with the musky warmth of the body.

Huacaya is released in a "parfum" concentration, which means you need to wait for the scent to develop on the skin. The complex melody of cashmeran, oud, soapy pink berries, vanilla, and spices doesn't settle in right away. Give it time.

Huacaya Graham & Pott,

Saffron, cinnamon, dew, raspberry, wood, heliotrope, musk, oud, powder.
