Morning Chess is a subtle and slightly nostalgic leather unisex fragrance, released in 2015 by the American niche perfume house Vilhelm Parfumerie. The composition was created by renowned perfumer Jerome Epinette. The inspiration for the composition came from the brand's founder, Jan Wilhelm, who spent summers with his grandfather in the resort town of Falkenberg. At their lush, green dacha, his grandfather would spend hours playing chess with his two sons. The child's memory lingered on the bright light of a summer morning and the scent of lush greenery.
The fragrance opens with the sparkling citrus freshness of bergamot, which slowly evolves into the scent of juicy galbanum leaves, intertwined with a subtle, slightly animalic leather scent. The fragrance concludes with the warm spice of patchouli leaves and salty accents of black amber.
