Yves Henri Donat Mathieu Saint Laurent is a famous fashion designer, born in Algeria on August 1, 1936, into a wealthy family of an insurance agent. His passion for art manifested itself in his youth, the eight-year-old boy was already fond of drawing, and by fourteen he was creating scenery and puppet theater costumes.
After graduating from college in Oran, seventeen-year-old Laurent went to Paris, where he entered the art school Hambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture School. It was there that he received his first award - the Grand Prix for a cocktail dress.
The Yves Saint Laurent fashion house officially opened in December 1961. The couturier immediately conquered Paris with an innovative approach, presenting a vinyl raincoat, a women's tuxedo and trouser suit, a trapeze dress, sexy thigh-high boots, and a practical "safari" style at fashion shows. It is believed that he was the founder of the unisex style.
In 1963, the brand's perfume division was created, debuting with the Yves Saint Laurent Y fragrance. The green-chypre composition, created by perfumer Jean Amick, perfectly embodied Yves Saint Laurent's request for "thick, juicy and languid" perfume.
In 1971, Yves shocked the public with his first men's fragrance Pour Homme, in the advertising campaign of which the couturier posed naked.
That same year, a perfume for modern, self-confident women, regular visitors to boutiques, was released - Rive Gauche.
The company's worldwide fame and perfume glory was brought by the Opium fragrance, created in 1977. Widespread criticism, high-profile scandals and even lawsuits did not prevent the composition from becoming a bestseller and hit of the 70s and 80s.
By the end of the 1980s, Yves Saint Laurent began to get sick often, and the brand's business was seriously shaken. Nevertheless, in 1983, one of the most feminine, iconic fragrances of the company was released - Paris Yves Saint Laurent, created by the talented Sofia Groysman.
Powdery-creamy shades of rose, mimosa, violet and hyacinth personify the blooming spring Paris.
The beginning of the new millennium was marked by the release of opposite fragrances: Baby Doll and Nu Yves Saint Laurent. The first is a light, summery, fruity, girlish, the aroma of love and carelessness. The second is a rich, spicy-woody, sensual fragrance for a vamp woman.
The brand's heyday began in 2004, when the world was introduced to the Cinéma perfume - bright, major citrus, soft almond and vanilla against the background of warm, radiant amber. And in 2014, Black Opium Yves Saint Laurent, created as a modern continuation of the classic Opium, made a real splash. This youthful, sweet perfume attracts attention with notes of vanilla coffee, honey pear and sparkles of pink pepper. Now this fragrance has more than 25 flankers and collector's editions!
The newest pillar fragrances are Mon Paris (an ode to classic Paris, 2016) with notes of raspberry, strawberry and patchouli, and Libre (2019), unusually modern, intriguing with an unexpected note of lavender.
