Born in Lebanon, Elie Saab first made a name for himself in 1982, when he opened his own tailor shop in his hometown of Beirut at the age of 18. He soon presented his first collection of evening wear for high society ladies. And success was not long in coming. Saab received orders from abroad, and he became known in the fashion capital of Paris. In 1997, the National Chamber of Italian Fashion changed its rules for the first time to not admit foreigners into its ranks. Elie Saab was the first non-Italian to be honored to become its member. This event was followed by a prêt-à-porter show in Milan. And already in 2000, Elie Saab presented his clothing line in Paris. It was he who created the most expensive dress in the world of haute couture, priced at $2 million and decorated with diamonds and emeralds. It is no surprise that Saab is friends with many Hollywood stars. This was started by Halle Berry, who in 2002 went up on stage to receive her Oscar statuette in a Saab dress.
